In an economy where we must nurture whatever mom and pop type business we can, I can endorse Tavistock Books wholeheartedly. I've been a patron for years, so much so that, although I live on the West Side of town now, I make the trek to Los Feliz to purchase books from Kerry Slaterry and her staff and feel good about it. The store is not a cardboard cut out, the inventory is well chosen and, finally, the store and staff are activists in and a credit to the community.

A really great book store for those looking to find something for a gift or a collection. This is not a typical used book store, but a high end antiquarian book seller. They really know what they are doing in there, and have been in business for over 30 years. I found an amazing Nancy Drew book here! Not for the faint of heart or someone looking for a cheap paperback.

Typical scammer response... "that's not the book I sent!!" Of course it is. You should change your name to scamartist2004.. This is How they Treat Others They bought a book from me ,,for 19 ,,they Didn't buy insurance for 1 ,,said the book Binding was completely loose ,,I would have remembered the book being Completely ,,I asked they to send few pics so I could investigate and compare to my pics that was on the Add when I sold the book,,They Did Not send any pics but this nasty unprofessional Note...all over 19 .

It's a good store. It's definitely for collectors though.

Vic obviously is not attuned for purchasing 1st editions, seeing I just brought in about 75 that he completely disregarded , and there's nothing rare in not desiring to purchase choice books from a ruddy red head. Baffling. Again , I have yet to meet an honest book buyer. I understand not wanting to do business with grungy , uncouth tough guys , but legal business with merchandise that has been aquired absolutely above board & honest with a reasonable character is , to the tempered inquisitive, fair play. However, no matter what I showed Vic , short of Hitler's mustache in a sealed test tube, there was an air of indifference & contempt . First editions nothing. I showed him a consolidated 1931 "reprint" from Surtees , circa 1840's, with 1,000 copies printed , mine being numbered of course , which he shrugged off with a "Here'ya'go'" handing it back . I'll spit once and drown the whole bunch . So narrow minded that a fly could sit on the tip of their noses' & kick them in both eyes at the same time. The rascals , I bet they screw their socks on in the morning, the whole crooked bunch. Rare & first edition ...... amazing.
