Adopted a beautiful 3 - legged pup. Adoption was easy and straightforward. This is the 2nd pup we've adopted from APA. We love our new girl and plan to give her a happy, loving home.

Very very nicely organized shelter. The volunteer and staff truly care about and love every dog in the shelter. However, If you are looking to adopt a puppy. It is probably not reliable to trust the breed they tell you. It is not their fault, it is because these dogs are rescued dogs and it is very hard to determine the size and the actual breed until they grow up. Expect a bigger size than what they'd tell you. We adopted our puppy when she was a month old and 10 pound. They told us it is a medium sized dog and will only grow up to 50 pounds probably. Our dog ended up being 90 pounds and a completely different breed than what they said. This does not change the love we have for our dog, just different than what we are expecting. Just have this in mind if you want to adopt a puppy!

Austin Pets Alive runs like a well-oiled machine from my experience Nov 2020. After looking for that perfect pet at the 5 nearest rescues around me, I ended up at Austin Pets Alive which is not near to me. They have a \match making\ search on their website AND it does not stop there! After matching about 20 dogs, I was assigned a \match maker\ person who helped me to narrow it down... My heart was for an older dog and the matchmaker nailed it! We have had our precious 2 year old dog for 8 weeks now and the match could not have been better... He came with heart worms and APA was so AWESOME with the treatment to remove the heart worms.

I got a wonderful cat from them about 2 1/2 years ago. He's 17 pounds, real friendly.
