This place is a toxic environment for any child to learn and for any grown person to work. My nearly ten years at kidsActing (both as a student and as an employee) was punctuated with duplicity, double standards, deceit... finally culminating in an unauthorized jaunt by the owner into my medical care and records, conspiring with an ex-doctor of mine (which is a HIPAA violation on the part of that doctor), and my subsequent dismissal for refusing treatment that was deemed \excessive and harmful\ by other medical professionals. There is no such thing as privacy here. Forbid you should have a family emergency, because the owner will personally call you and demand you leave a funeral or the death bed of a loved one to fit her own needs. Complaints of harassment by the staff fall on deaf ears. Favorites are chosen, and the rejects mocked behind closed doors during casting decisions. The chosen favorites are also punished by never being seen as proper adults when \graduating\ from student to employee. Rights for shows were flagrantly ignored until recently, being mandated after too many violations. Children will be offered employment in their teens, thinking they have an actual job. In actuality: these minors are never told they have now started a business in their own name (i.e. self employment) and fall victim to the IRS and the self employment tax. CPAs have called this practice illegal and immoral. Many of the teachers actually working on the ground with the kids are amazing, giving people. Beware the owner and the management. Believe every other negative review posted here because I was in the office as each of them was dealt with and know how kidsActing (read: Dede Clark) was in the wrong and these poor individuals were in the right. Avoid kidsActing at all costs, especially when there are other better theatre programs in this city.

I am super happy with my 3 years of sending kids to Austin’s Kids acting studio. Both my girls have done the holiday and summer camps, and one has done 3 semester long shows. The team really has it together and has fostered my daughter's growing passion for acting and singing. I'd especially like to give props to Cat Phillips as we just finished the Wizard of Oz with my daughter as the Wicked Witch. Cat truly cares about the students and was just as moved at this performance as the rest of us. I know Cat and the team she lead worked hard to ensure each kid felt important and special from day one until the end of the last curtain. My daughter came home thrilled with what a blast she had. The costumes and sets are impressive too! I'd like to especially compliment Cat and hope her managers see this on Cat's communication with the parents. She did a fabulous A job on keeping us in the loop, setting boundaries, setting expectations, preparing us, and making sure we understood completely how she and her team she leads go throughout the the process of role assignments. She was all inclusive of each and every kid and did the same with them. So proud of the whole group!

My daughter is currently doing her 5th full production play here, and we couldn't be happier. Everyone is SO nice. The owner is amazing, as are all the directors, crew, and production staff. Each show has blown us away. There is such a warm sense of community, with both the staff and the parents. You can tell everyone loves what they're doing. My daughter has made lifelong friends here and says she's never felt so accepted and welcomed (outside of home) as she does here. We are looking forward to many more years with kidsActing.

Awesome. I was only able to do Alice In Wonderland, but it was so great!! I played Alice #1, which was really fun. I didn't live in Austin, so it was an hour drive every Thursday. I don't live in Texas anymore, but if you're into acting and are still a child and live near/in Austin, you should totally audition.

A fantastic place to grow as a performer and a person.
