I hadn't been here for about 6 months. Wow! What a feast for the eyes! I'm a Bowl regular so not so easily impressed but everything looked so crisp and fresh. The outside was awash in the oranges and reds of fruit, whereas inside were altars of greens, promising optimal nutrition and flavor. I grabbed a couple of red Little Gems, rosy rhubarb, fragrant Comics pears ... Not my weekly grocery run but I was having fun. Weekdays are best here, as it is a little tight.

INSANELY GOOD. How do they have such a wide variety of produce and ingredients in such a relatively small space?? Is this the most exquisite grocery store on earth? Am I in heaven? Well done. So many flavors that most stores don’t carry, everything here seems to be of great quality and consideration. Was able to balance my indulgences with deals from the discount rack! Double win.

Heres how it goes here. The produce WILL be better than any grocery store produce. Yes i live in Berkeley yes I know about Berkeley bowl.

Large produce selection is the only positive I found from this place. Otherwise, be ready to deal with rude staff, overcrowded aisles, a confusing layout, and limited payment options (they only accept visa or mastercard). With so many fantastic grocery stores in Berkeley, I will not be returning here.

Top quality produce and other groceries. Monterey Market is a Berkeley institution, like Berkeley Bowl but serving the north side. What sets it apart is the incredible diversity of produce available, all at top quality. The store has relationships with growers throughout the state, who I understand give preference to Monterey Market's buyers, and we all benefit.
