For the most part I have been very happy with the care that my father receives at the North Carolina state veterans home in Black Mountain. Just within the last six months I have noticed a decline in communication regarding my father’s health. Hoping this gets better like it previously was.

Working in medical sales, I have visited numerous hospitals and LTC’s throughout several states. This home by far, stands out beyond all other locations. They have set the bar high and created an environment one can only hope they retire to. I have volunteered once a week, for almost 2 years and I still can’t get over the fact being there is not a smell when you walk inside. A sincere Thank You to the staff, your hard work and endless effort is noticed and greatly appreciated!

This was the most incredible facility we could have EVER have found to place our Dad as a resident! He had been to two other facilities prior and they couldn't hold a candle to the care, cleanliness, positive environment the VA Black Mountain provided. Arrangements were made to do a pinning ceremony for our Dad since he had served in the Airforce. It was carried out with the most professionalism by all and my Dad even joined in the singing of the Airforce's Fight song, which we didn't even know he knew, much less remembered as he suffered dementia towards the end. But he was proud to be honored in front of his three daughters, was given to pins to commemorate his service to our country, a U. S. Flag, and a special blanket! There wasn't a dry eye in the room! If you have a loved one, as we did until his passing 7-30-18, don't hesitate to take a serious look at this beautiful and loving environment!

Beautiful Facility, Gorgeous Location, Caring Attentive Staff, Clean & Safe. Very respectful of their Veteran Residents & Families. Sponsor celebrations for all of the holidays, hosted by the Administration, Mgt, Staff, and Community Volunteers for the Veterans Service. Very happy that my Dad is in a good, caring home.
