Who We Are The Center on Global Interests (CGI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonpartisan foreign-policy research institution that promotes the rigorous study of modern-day Russia and Eurasia. CGI provides timely analysis, strategic policy recommendations and organizes public events aimed at engaging decision makers and the broader public on topics of global concern. Founded in 2012 by the historian and political scientist Nikolai V. Zlobin, a former adviser to Mikhail Gorbachev, CGI became the first independent think tank established in Washington after the end of the Cold War to focus exclusively on Russia and the former Soviet space. As a new and dynamic organization, CGI aims to challenge long-standing beliefs on either side of the Atlantic and propose innovative approaches to emerging policy challenges. Our Funding As part of its mission to maintain scholarly independence, CGI does not accept funding from the U.S. or foreign governments. We rely solely on foundation grants and private contributions to finance our programs.
