I have been a patient of Dr. Asokumar Buvanendran for about two years. After suffering a sports injury that turned into a chronic pain condition five years ago, I honestly didn’t know what I was in for, being a very active person living in Colorado, it was a rough transition. After moving back to Chicago two years ago, frustrated, I was lucky enough to find Dr. Buvanendran to manage my chronic pain. Dr. Buvanendran is an extremely knowledgeable physician, who, with years of experience under his belt, knows what a person goes through on a daily basis with chronic pain. He custom tailors your treatment based on your particular condition and goals using various methods while keeping your overall health always at the forefront. Despite having a busy practice, Dr. Buvanendran gives me his full attention when I go in for an appointment. He is a very direct person and has the confidence, through years of practice, to make decisive decisions concerning my care. I respect that. Dr. B was there for me when others weren’t. I highly recommend him for your chronic pain, acute pain and/or post-operative care. -Ron Harmon

I have never personally had an appointment with this doctor, but am told he is head of University Pain Physicians, which is a pain clinic operating out of several of the Rush locations, but separate from Rush as it's own entity. UPP is the most poorly run business/doctor's office/administration that I have every encountered in decades of dealing with a chronic conditions. Many doctors there are top notch and personally I love my pain management doctor there. But the office would be better run by preschool aged children. No one answers the phone. Ever. You can leave a message but don't expect a return call, I'm still waiting for a return call from 3 yrs ago. The office staff talk in circles so fast and easily that when you call them out for lying and ask for the truth they can't even remember what is real. Expect to wait at least 1 hour after your appointment time to be seen and expect to be ignored at the check-in and check-out processes. Expect to wait another hour after your appointment for any paperwork you may need. If Dr Buvanendran is heading this operation, so poorly, for so long (my involvement is over 4 years) I can't imagine him to be a very attentive, compassionate, present , or honest doctor. And aside from his personal medical abilities, if this is how he oversees this office then I want to shout from rooftops, hire a plane to skywrite, do whatever I can to warn people about the absolutely horrific mess that is University Pain physicians office and administration. Like I said previously, my doctor is amazing and the only reason I stayed. But the next time he and I speak I will be sadly asking for a referral outside of this practice.

Dr. B. Has the god complex. He's ignorant with the WORST bed side manners I ever experienced with any doctor. He tells you how you feel and that's it. First time seen him. I waited 2 hours for him and he gave me 3 minutes of his time. Also he treated like a junkie trying to score pain killers not knowing my chronic condition I even wanted a shot been in severe pain but his shocking ignorance left me speechless. He would even let me talk and spoke over me as if my problem wasn't his problem. What's the sense of making appointments and seek professional help when you walk into ignorance who's set of mind is money....next cry baby patient?. This type of doctor wants to make you medicate yourself with alcohol, drugs, etc. Since they are not there to help you. DR. ASOKUMAR BUVANENDRAN, MD. IS THE WORST DOCTOR I HAVE ENCOUNTER AND WON'T RECOMMEND TO MY WORST ENEMY.
