When we moved into the neighborhood in 1990, there was a rumor that the entrance on East Ave. would be reopened, and eventually it happened, though it is entirely automated. It was pretty common in those days that snow on the path from the station platform to East Ave. wouldn't be shoveled, ever; now, it often takes a little longer than the ramp up to Oak Park Ave., but it usually gets shoveled eventually. It's been a while since I've dealt with the agent on the OP side (are they still there?), but they've always been helpful in the past. The tile steps on the East Ave. end of the platform are safe to walk on these days, and the platform is generally in good repair. The arrival time monitors are another improvement. I wouldn't want to live here (too breezy), but for getting on and off the L trains, it'll do for now.
It is a neighborhood convenience providing accesss to the city. Most days it runs flawlessly.
So bad!
