I'm what you might call Orthodox-curious. I'm a member of a Conservative shul, but occasionally visit an orthodox synagogue to study or for a holiday or morning minyan. Ohev Shalom is a good one for a \tourist\ like me, as I find it welcoming, friendly, and forgiving when my ignorance shows through. Make no mistake, this is an entirely traditional, fully observant synagogue, with gender-separate seating and a lower-case-c conservative orientation. But if you show up with an open mind ready to experience what's on offer it is a beautiful and spiritual community.

The shul was great when I first started. It's all fun and games. However, many of the members are venomous snakes. The community is horrifically toxic and lashon hara is the religion many of the congregants, not Judaism. They were one of my first Jewish experiences as a teenager and made me a baal teshuva, and a big reason I threw it in the trash as an adult. But go and enjoy as they pretend to be your friends and then talk bad about you the minute you leave.
