Worst experience ever. If I could give them negative stars I would. The staff needs to learn how to be human. I've been trying to apply for an emergency visa to India after my father's death due to COVID-19 with no response from anyone for days. I finally get a call back and I'm trying to explain the situation to the woman who has called back and she hangs up the phone. She didn't listen to any of my concerns and did not even take the time to listen to the question I had. This is truly the worst service I have ever encountered from a place that is supposed to be helping it's people especially during a pandemic. You'd think that in NYC they would hire competent people and strive to be helpful, but instead it's just complete and utter incompetence and even negligence on their part. As I scroll through the reviews, I can see that so many people have had the same horrible experience and it is no surprise. They only seem to respond to the positive ones rather than wanting to help those who are dissatisfied with the help or lack there of that they are receiving from the consulate.

Amazing Service amid Covid-19 situation! I sincerely thank Ministry of External Affairs, New York office to help me to get my India passport renewed in a single day. It was indeed a great help in these difficult times. Thank you very much Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

Like others, I haven’t heard back from the office for a month now! I sent my passport on December 15th, I received a notification from them twice after which made me feel great at that time. I understood there were holidays in the middle so processing times would be longer but it’s been 1.5 months now. I have left queries through their online portal and left messages and still haven’t heard back a single thing. Even to get a response would make me feel better. I requested that I had an emergency but nothing happened. I had to cancel my flight as I could not travel internationally without my passport. I do not enjoy writing these reviews but I am just hoping to get some attention from anyone is the staff to look into this!

Edit: I am updating my review to 5 stars because I witnessed the efficiency and sense of urgency by some of the officers at the consulate. Specifically, I would like to thank the lady officer who looked into my application and gave me the EC on time as promised. ------- I sent all my documents for EC more than 2 weeks back. USPS tracking shows it has been delivered on Jan 15. But I haven't received any response back yet. My flight is in 3 days and I am really concerned because my original passport is with the consulate. Earlier they used to reply through PRAMIT, but not any more. They are not responding to calls as well. I trust in their efficiency and know it is difficult in these COVID times, but I would be grateful if someone could process my application before my flight on Feb 5. I am a senior citizen and cannot make multiple trips to the New York consulate in this winter weather as I live in CT. I hope they understand my situation. Looking forward to hearing back from them.
