Closest i have found to the actual traditional danish hotdog. And it was really good! Place is a bit hard to find, close to the subway walk way for train 4-5.
On a corner of Central Station sits a small place called Danish Dogs. It is inside the station and you can pass next to it and it wouldn’t stand out in your eyes. One of the things I wanted to try in New York was a hot dog. So being close to this place I said to give it a try. I ordered the Great Dane and got a pretty big package for 7.62 USD. The first thing I noticed is that the bun is not from one piece. It is two slices of bread so when you first pick your dog you have to be careful so that it doesn’t fall. I consider this a small minus because I had no warning and I was expecting the bread to be in one piece, which would insure better handling. Overall a decent hot dog, one to satisfy your curiosity but not one to make you come back to that place for more.
Small selection of drinks such as iced tea, water. Fresh, toasted sandwiches. Invariably long lines at any time of day, since Danish Dogs is nearby an entrance to Grand Central Station railroad and subway stations. Staff scant but friendly.
Walk by with my girlfriend, hangry and with alit on our plate to do with the rest of the day. Deshonna one of the sandwich artist made our day better and put a smile on our faces and just is a nice person.
Review for their new breakfast bagels: Pros: the bagels are delicious, service quick. Cons: super disorganized and unsanitary operation. Today the sniffling cashier kept her glove on to hand me change, then she made my bagel with same glove. Yesterday the counter looked super dirty and they didn’t wipe down knives in between uses, so my bagel had bits of salmon etc on it. I keep trying it out in AM because bagels are good, and no line. But at that super expensive price, PLEASE improve quality control. It’s so gross watching! I will update rating if you can get act together. Thanks!
I went there I left there super disappointed, there's nothing Danish about the great Dane hotdog, danes don't make them like that, it's a disgrace and super bad marketing. The server was nice but didn't know how to make the hotdog at all.... Asked for no mustard and she only gave me ketchup on my hotdog. They should stop calling it Danish Dogs if they don't change 80% of what they are doing rn, because whoever thought of this concept has clearly never been to Denmark. Contact me if you want help fixing your broken concept.
2 Trips and 2 different experiences. Both times were good tasting but the counter guy the other day was like an artist with how he put together the Schaeferhund I ordered. Today not so much for the different server with the Hen Hound.
