They don't answer the phone or respond to email inquiries about tourist visas. it is easier to get visas to China and Russia. The other south American countries do not have such an elaborate system to keep you away from visiting their country.

The Embassy of Brazil has many events and does a great job promoting things of interest to the Brazilian community and others in D.C.!

Terrible service. No one will answer calls as noted in several of these comments. Yes, I am sure most people have gone to the website and read the information and understand it, but sometimes you might need one point clarified.

Embassies take care of diplomatic matters, Consulates process documents (VISA, etc). Instead to call them, read the information on the website, do your homework, plan your trip in advance and, you will be able to solve your problems in time. Very often people get frustrated because forget to plan in advance.

Worst expereince of my life. They obviously hate Americans and make it almost impossible to obtain a visa there. They make you buy plan tickets ahead of time before they will even except an application for the visa. Then they will make you wait 2-3 for an appointment in person for the visa. Then they will make you come there in person. Then they will make you wait in line only to tell you you paperwork is wrong. Rude people working there. Very disturbing attitudes.
