I have been with Paul and his team for 5 years and I will never go to another Mechanic. The tow drivers are great! The receptionist knows how to communicate with car owners who are already upset about having to dish out money.Once I was having work done on my headlight and I knew I was having a problem with the engine. I didn't tell Paul because I did not have enough money to fix both problems. The mechanic found the problem without me saying anything about it. That means my car was thoroughly inspected. They looked at the whole car not just the headlight. The work that 5 star does on your car is exceptional, but the reason I love 5 star so much is they don't treat you like a dumb chick. The mechanic explains everything in way that you can understand. They don't care about your gender, the color of your skin, if you drive a BMW or a hoop-tee. Everyone is treated fair.

Pros: Thorough, honest service. Towing is free if you get the service there. Cons: Expensive, and slow. I've taken my car to other places, been told I need all kinds of repairs, then brought my car here to find out that I was being lied to, and I needed much less done on the car. When my car was waterlogged (lube/car wash that screwed up...I'll be reviewing them when the case is over), they could have told me that the transmission needed to be flushed, the fuel lines, etc. But they only did what was necessary, which made a potentially 2,000 repair cost about 500. If you need your car towed, skip AAA and call these guys directly. The towing is free as long as you get the service done at their shop, and you'll save a service call (you only get 4 per year with AAA). The bad news about this place is the MUCH higher price they charge for labor than most places. It's about 50% higher per hour than what I've seen around Newark. And if you bring your car here, expect to be without a car for at least a couple days. I have always gotten my car back from any other service place on the same day. I have NEVER gotten my car back from Five Star within TWO days. The owner, Paul, has explained the reasoning to me, and I understand it (they want to make absolutely sure the problem is solved, the computer is reading the new parts properly, etc.). But it is something to consider if you're in a rush. That said, if you're a regular customer, if you're really caught in a bind, they can loan you a car. It won't be a NICE car, but at least you won't miss work! The good outweighs the bad for me, so Five Star gets...well...five stars.

liars. (said i needed work done on my car that was beyond what i asked for) price gouging: (job: to replace starter. my mechanic quoted 268 for parts 47 for labor, 5star said 290 for parts, 100 for labor). 5star would not match my mechanic's price. tricksters. (took my car there explicitly asking for a price on the starter for my car - they told me i had to pay 100 for "the analysis" of the starter before i could get my (unrepaired) car back). so, if you are unlucky enough to have them come to your aid when you call AAA, and even if the tow-guy is totally nice, intelligent and honest... don't expect the same from the repair or service departments. and don't be fooled by the new paint job. oh yea - don't expect the 10% AAA discount either. no wonder they had to change their name - to try to act like they were "new".

Paul convinced me to have my car repaired by Five Star. During the time my car was being repaired by Five Star, Paul was hard to reach. He was unresponsive. I had difficulty checking on the status of my car. I was told my car would be ready in two to three weeks. The repairs dragged on for almost two months. I spent more than 1,200 for a base model rental of a compact sedan.

This place is AWFUL! my mom paid almost 1200 because of a leak on her car and they didn't even fix the leak. I suggest you don't do business there.

This place sucks. .. the owner paul is a cheap scum bag and preys on people who are already in a bad situation. ... he under pays employees and over charges customers. .. its a no brainer why his last business partner left him high and dry..... the whole business is in his wifes name and he acts like he runs the show... since wben does a tow company owner not know how to even work and wheel lift.... bad company all the way around...

All they do is steal your money, if you have any trucks don't bring them here, I had a 2007 ford 350, brought it here for something small, they broke the dipstick, undid some clamps and handed the truck , half hour driving , All the oil leaked out through the dipstick, now the engine blown and so many things wrong and it's going to cost about 14K to fix
