Bill Malone and I may be related. My paternal grandmothers name is Ruby Pearl 'Pirley' Malone Skelly. She lived from 1895-1985, mother of ten children, my father being one of the ren, he was John Prestley Skelly [05/07/1925-10/16/1998], son of Robert Lee Skelly [1888-1962]. I have passed through Gallup, New Mexico, U.S.A., many times, although I had no knowledge of this particular business being there somewhere. I found it by chance entirely here on Google Maps, during a re-orientation browse. I am the last of five children, not an easy make, but a necessary one. I am still on my own my own, although, three immediate family members of mine are now gone, just over a span of a half century: Brother Steven, Father John, Mother Wanda. I am on my own, now age 53, born in the year 1967, and four years later, my birthday became United Nations Day on October 24th, 1971. Cheropachokee [A portmanteau, or word blend from Cherokee X Apache].

Bill's shop / trading post is truly a must stop. He is incredibly knowledgeable and he has a beautiful collection of Navaho weavings. He is one of the last of the true Indian traders. We had met him previously at Hubbell's trading post back in the day, and he took good care of us back then as well. We couldn't be happier with the quality and value of our purchase. Thank you Bill!

Mr Malone is an experience that you don’t want to miss. He is knowledgeable, congenial, patient, helpful and above all informative of the Native American culture and arts. We felt as if we gained a new friend and crave the experience of a re-visit to his trading post! Thank you Bill!

Having met Bill Malone at Hubbells in Ganado, I was surprised to see him out of prison. He was accused of double-dealing and taking items Navajo and Hopi from a National Park property. But I personally found him 'okay', and wanted to look around at things in the rug room. There I saw the most beautiful 8' x 11' Tec Nos Pos rug I've ever seen spread out on the floor. It was drop dead stunning. I was asking him about it, when he said 'See that man on the stool over there? He's a buyer rep for a big Indian trader and this rug just came in off the Rez this morning. He was sent over to buy it. They've been waiting for it to come off the loom for the last 14 months. You should buy it, before he does'. 'How much is this rug' I asked? 'Eight thousand dollars'... pink-faced Malone said with a bored look. I looked over at that buyers rep, and said to Bill, 'take a check?'.....'Sure, with proper ID'. So I bought it. I think that buyers rep got fired. He had no idea what just went down. I often wonder what happened to my eight grand.
