Just an FYI that the Ranger Station is closed and so are the bathrooms. Road conditions are posted by the door but they were dated 1/21 (we visited 2/7). There were 3 inches of snow on the road at Lake 22 and it was coming down steadily @ 3pm.

Wow if you haven't visited the Mountain Loop Highway & it's off-roads (former logging roads) east of Verlot, you are in for an unbelievable treasure of undescribable beauty kept hidden yet any other State, Province, Country would demand it's preservation as a National Park. I know all the little secrets of this place of wonder & a lot of it's history & if you are freaked out by the scary looking mountain people keep in mind a GAY campground has been here over 20 years with no locals freaked out, so relax, fasten your seat belt because most roads here are in bad shape! So is the restroom at the Verlot Ranger Station now a public service center. The men's room is awful, but hey, it's worse in the big city, but... they have hot water & campgrounds with showers or skinny dipping in the rivers on a hot day. Nobody is going to call a cop, there's no cell service here, so relax, but be prepared to be your own cop if you want to exercise your 2nd Amendment. The biggest tourist trap are the ice caves at Big4 mountain, but I know a secret spot where you can drive a thousand feet above them and witness the entire valley below. A view that will stun you. My family first came here from Mercer Island in 1968. Talk about culture shock!I'm 57 now & God, I love this place. Snohomish Counties little secret. Oh forgot... I took these pics last weekend, March 2, 2018. Red Bridge... Google it. And... Center rings of a tree 700 years old, cut down to make coffee tables probably, but these are the first rings of it's life notice how friken colder it was here back then. That is at Verlot on display.

A great view of the not as often seen North face of Mount Pilchuck. This is the view that first inspired me to climb to its lofty summit. Now I've been to the top 14 times so far. The staff in the public service center (when open) are also very helpful. NW Forest Passes, hiking maps and literature are available inside. A self service (vending) machine also dispenses passes outside when the service center is closed.

Welcome to Western Washington's Mountain Loop Highway at the Verlot Public Service Center. Everything you need to be part of this amazing road trip begins here. You will need maps and most importantly a trail or parking permit pass, as its illegal to park along the roadways without a pass. This is due to the narrow width of this highway, with few off the pavement parking areas. the area is very well traveled and at times, the roadside clogged with cars or trucks making passing very dangerous. This is one of the most scenic drives in Western Washington well worth the time to arrive and follow the roadway to many outstanding scenic views.

200 characters can create a large number of words or a small number of words, depending on what you want to do with it. The longest word in the English language is usually considered to be: antidisestablishmentarianism. It is 28 characters long. You could write that word 6 times (168 characters), and if you include spaces between each word (5 characters) and a period at the end (1 character), your final “sentence” would be 174 characters long. If you include one more big word in the sentence, a word that’s 25 characters long, then you’d have a total of 7 words, 6 spaces and a period as your “sentence” — totaling 200 characters. The shortest words in the English language are “a,” “I” and “O”. So you can have 100 of any of those words, with 99 spaces and a period at the end, and fill up 200 characters. That sentence would have 100 words. PS: Yes, I know there are technical words much longer than antidisestablishmentarianism. But among non-coined, non-technical words, it is generally considered king.
