The construction of the Eastern Offices Building, as the Graybar was originally called, began in 1925 conforming to the 1916 zoning resolution that required structures to set back as they rose in height. The 30 story building was designed by Sloan & Robertson, a 1920s architectural firm specializing in speculative construction and public works. In 1927 the Graybar building was one of the last edifices to be completed in the East Midtown area. It was erected directly above the railroad tracks which was then owned by New York Central Railroad. The Graybar structure was an integral part of the Grand Central Terminal incorporating multiple train platforms and an impressive passageway which connects the terminal to Lexington Avenue. This area was then called “Terminal City” because it was a major hub for commerce and trade throughout the early to mid-1900s. One of the original tenants of this Art Deco and Byzantine-style architecture was the Graybar Electric Company (1926-1982) and upon its completion (1927), the Graybar building was an immediate success attracting other prominent tenants the likes of Turner Construction. Graybar announced in 2015 its return to its historic roots in Midtown Manhattan East Side.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE COMPANY. I ordered 17K worth of lighting products from them. They double billed my AMEX, and I spent 6 weeks going back and forth with them to get a refund. They acknowledged the mistake but cannot fix. All empty and broken promises. Horrible Customer Service. Extremely unprofessional company, no one wants to take accountability. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! THEY WILL SCAM YOU AND DOUBLE CHARGE YOU AND MAKE YOU CHASE THEM!

Great building. Everything is way overpriced, but that's GB for you. (Spent over 450 on a pack of 25 keystone jacks :o)

Beautiful marble entryway. The building is old but many of the floors have been renovated. Building security is very friendly yet perceptive and helpful.
