Trying to take your beginning surfing to the next level? Ash is the man. My husband and I live on the North Shore, and we are solid beginners but really want to be able to rip over the next couple years. We see Ash almost daily when we surf, and he's given us a heap of encouragement and tips along our surfing journey. From how to paddle more effectively, to positioning, to catching waves better, to surf etiquette - he's been amazing at helping us to feel more comfortable in the ocean - even before we hired him for the first time. My husband recently took a lesson from Ash because he wanted to "go out back" and catch bigger waves with confidence (and someone experienced watching his back who could help him with positioning/technique.) Ash did not disappoint. My husband ended up catching the biggest wave of his life (15 foot face) when the waves were pumping at Pua'ena Point! If you see Ash's van at a surf spot, know that you will be met with a warm smile, his positive energy, and aloha. He truly cares about everyone in the ocean - helping to create a positive, safe environment for all of us out there. Thank you, Ash! We'll be taking more lessons - and see you in the water!

We just got finished with lessons led by Ash and boy oh boy, he delivered! I have a little experience and my wife has none. He instructed and instilled confidence in both of us and we were both up and riding on our first attempt and just kept going after that. Very, very worth it!
I am usually cheap in compliments (look at my other reviews to compare) but I really wanted to highlight my positive experience with Ash! Ash is an easy going and highly professional surfing teacher. He was very patient and shared much of his (professional) experience throughout the lesson. He tailored his teaching to me playing to my strengths and helping me focus on strengthening my weak points. Without prior experience I was able to catch 99% of the attempted waves, I had all my questions answered, and I had an absolute amazing time!! I highly recommend Ash to beginner surfers (although I'm sure even pro surfers can learn a ton from him) and hope you have an amazing time as well!
If Jesus were a surf instructor he would be Ash. Seriously, he is the most patient, fun and encouraging surf instructor you can ask for. He is the reason my kids are so confident in the ocean when surfing.

My dad and I had an amazing experience with Ash! He is so patient and knowledgeable. We had 0 experience with surfing but he got us riding on a few waves. His positive personality makes learning fun! Definitely recommend!
I made my way to the North Shore with no expectations. I found Ash’s Hawaii surf school and quickly gave him a call. I could not come to Hawaii and not take a lesson. He was quickly able to accommodate me the same day. I was soo nervous just the thought of trying to try and get on the board and actually catch a wave. Ash was extremely professional. He explained all the safety rules and surf etiquette before we got in the water. Once we were in the water we paddled out and slowly got in the groove of things. This is by far the best experience I have had in Hawaii and I highly recommend everyone give it a try at least once. And if you are like me and loved it soo much I recommend taking it a second time like I did. I fell in love with it even more. In part I believe Ash had a great part in that. He made me feel safe in the water and confident during my lesson. The cool thing about it to was he was well liked at the location and many people there had either worked with him or took lessons with him as well so that was a plus. Please consider him for your next surf lesson. My next time to Hawaii I will be coming back and I’ll be bringing my family along. Thank you Ash for making my Hawaiian experience so memorable.
Ash is a very skilled surfer and instructor. He will help you replace bad habits with good ones, push you just the right amount and have you ripping!!! I highly recommend his surf school to surfers of all abilities.
