Love this place and will come back as much as we can for as long as we can. Public skate was practically empty. Staff was wonderful.

Regarding in public/open skate... Haymarket Iceplex is a good place for public skating, ***when you can get in***, and not withstanding the people who don't wear masks correctly while skating. Masks still go over both mouth and nose, still are required by law since March 29 2020, still recommended by CDC in settings like public skating rinks, still provide 70%ish effectiveness to you and those around you when worn correctly, still provide 0% effectiveness when not worn correctly, still don't interfer with breathing when worn correctly, please take selfies with mask on or go outside, please don't take my word or your friend's word and go read the Virginia laws and the CDC guidelines yourself as there's a ton of misinformation or maybe just misunderstanding posted other places. As for getting in, they limit to 70 people each session. They don't take reservations, so you have to stand in line outside. If you get there 10 minutes before the session, you will almost certainly not get in. Seems like you need to be there 20-30 minutes before the session. Even though they say they don't take reservations, they have been letting people early in the line sign in folks who are not even there yet (isn't that a reservation?) while there are lots of people standing outside in the cold waiting in line -- I have seen this two out of the last three times I've been there. That's ridiculous in my opinion, but at least be aware of what they're doing and get there *very* early if you want to skate. I'm still happy to skate when I can. I sure miss the outdoor Harris Pavilion rink this year!

Great staff, new ice on south rink, new everything on rink #2 (north) My son also plays hockey here so, that's awesome too!

Not too crowded, but dishonest and no concern for health and safety. Management insists on masks during exercise contrary to every CDC and state guidance, flagrantly in violation of ADA safeguards for those who should not mask. Of course they didn’t say anything about it until after we’d paid. It made for a miserable experience.
