A decent standard hostel. Rooms are basic but comfortable though they can get chilly at night and hot during the day. Each bed has a reading lamp, outlets, and a fan which is awesome. Excellent full kitchen if you want to cook your own food and not spend a fortune eating out around town, plus cupboard and fridge space (the fridge is usually packed to capacity however). The central location close to the train station, light rail, and bus station (as well as stadium and concert venues) is a big bonus. I've stayed here twice while attending concerts and it's a big boon! It's in the International District so nights, especially on weekends, can be noisy with neighborhood traffic, people out partying on the streets below, and sirens. But the building's dorms are secure and safe. There's card-operated washers and dryers which is AWESOME - no need to scrounge for quarters here!

Good value for money but it only meets minimums. The whole building is really old and the bed linings are all destroyed. Hope not to be in the 4th floor cause you can only use the elevator with authorization. Bathrooms are perfect.

Like most, this is my first time in United States !! Cold and dark Seattle winter night when my driver said this is the one!! Place will remain in my memory. Rooms can be little smalls but staffs woah super friendly.. The hostel life in awesome in here.. Love those friends, dont know where they are now. Cheap and beautiful close to downtown Seattle.

The American Hotel, also know as Hosteling International - Seattle, is an excellent hostel that's located in the heart of Seattle's International District. Access to public transportation is about as good as it gets with metro bus, light rail, streetcar, Bolt Bus and Amtrak stations all within a couple not nlocks. The hostel offers a basic breakfast and hosts both daytime and evening activities. It's clean, has friendly staff and is altogether a great place to stay in Seattle.

When they say modest, they mean it. I stayed there in October and had a private room with a shared bathroom. The room was VERY basic, but comfortable. My room had a sink so that was nice. My only complaint (why I’m only giving three stars) is that rooms don’t have a thermostat and it got REALLY cold. Thank goodness I had the room to myself because I was able to use all of the blankets to keep warm. The staff are friendly and answered any questions that I had. Breakfast was your typical continental breakfast: bagels, muffins, etc., but hey, it’s free! However, if you’re able to buy groceries - they have an awesome full kitchen. I wasn’t there long enough to justify buying groceries.
The location is awesome - steps away from mass transit. Super easy to get to from the airport: hop on the Link Rail and take it all the way to International/Chinese District.
Yes...there is a high population of homeless that mingle around. Not really the hostel’s fault. I didn’t have any problems and I was a lone woman traveling by herself.
I would definitely recommend staying here if you’re needing someplace affordable and don’t mind giving up bells and whistles.

Clean rooms and cool roommates. Free breakfast in the morning (toast and bananas) They have daily activities for guests to make friends with each other. I highly recommend this because I made 7 new friends from around the world and the staff is very helpful. Location is 20 minute uber from the Seattle airport. Beds are not super the best but its hostel quality
