I went here for a party last weekend...really one of the worst experiences I've had out. Whoever was in charge was trying to charge everyone open bar, despite being told not everyone would have to. I was given a hard time by whoever was in charge of the place despite being PREGNANT. Really, you want the pregnant girl to get an open bar wristband? Great idea. While I think that the price of the open bar was a good deal, lets be real- not everyone drinks. Some people are the DD. (Or pregnant, hello). Yes, this is NYC and there is public transportation, but some of us HAVE to drive (We live in NJ). What bar doesn't let the DD drink soda for free all night, let alone FORCE them to get a wristband? Forcing an open bar (especially despite constant reassurance that this WASN'T the case) just isn't the way to make loyal customers. Really- I promise I'm not going to pass out drinks to everyone without a wristband. Maybe they should class up their clientele and they wouldn't have to be so worried about being cheated by their customers. Stay away.

I was here opening night last year and is was super cool! I have also been there recently for some afterwork party and had no beef with the place. The bar folks were nice and the drinks were flowing. The location is ideal too.

This place was Awesome! Went here on a weeknight for drinks...Amazing music, beautiful people and such an ambiance..One of the best lounges in the city, and very very hospitable. Def will go back, probably get a table with my friends next time!

Lair provided a great atmosphere and the DJ played awesome music all night. There were plenty of places to sit and relax or stand. The staff ruined my experience. The door staff was very rude. They turned people away for random reasons including sneakers, girls not wearing dresses, and not paying for open bar. The bar staff seemed to have their favorites as I always had to wait at least 10 minutes to get a drink. If the staff was more friendly I would definitely return.

I came here for a friend's birthday, and thankfully I arrived on the late side. My friend arranged to have an optional two-hour open bar option, but when people showed up at the party they were turned away if they did not do the open bar. As a result, a bunch of our friends were turned away. I arrived on the later side (after the open bar ended), so I didn't have a problem getting in. Once inside, it was VERY crowded, and the bus boys continually took away half full and completely full drinks that were on our table, although we repeatedly told them not to. Drinks are more on the pricier side; and the bartender seemed nice enough, but was completely swamped. Overall, this place definitely wasn't my cup of tea, as it's no fun celebrating at a place with crappy service and no space to move.

The waitstaff is extremely friendly and on point, their wells are what others consider top shelf, and the music is always great. I'd definitely recommend it.

I tried to come to Lair for a friend's birthday party. They'd offered a multi-hour open bar special, but that wasn't my style. They'd told my friend that we could come and not be required to participate, which was my plan. I was surprised when I was told at the door not only was that not the case, but that I should find somewhere else in the neighborhood to entertain myself for an hour, which was how much time was left to the open bar special. I'd planned on buying more than the 30 as I preferred their nicer cocktail menu to rail drinks, but decided I'd rather take my money back home and sit on my couch rather than to give them any. Shame they ruined my friend's birthday party. After how they treated me and my friend, I'll never go back.

I headed to Lair for a friend's birthday party. She had scheduled the party after reading some decent reviews online and speaking to a representative of the bar who promised her a 2-hour optional open bar for 30. The optional part was key for me because I wasn't going to be able to stay the whole time and I didn't want to pay 30 for a drink or two. The night of the party it was actually snowing in the city and it was pretty nasty out so I didn't think twice when I left the dress shoes at home and put on shoes with a little more grip. When I got to the bar, the door guy asked me how far away I lived. When I told him I lived uptown he said "Well, next time dress it up a little more" in reference to my shoes. Apparently, had I lived closer by he was going to ask me to go home and change my shoes...in a snowstorm. I should also point out that nowhere on the Lair website is a dress code discussed nor was my friend informed of one when she booked the party. However, I guess the door guy thought he was being kind by pretentiously conceding to my footwear instead of asking me to trek 30 minutes back up town to change shoes. Anyway, after I told him what party I was with he informed me that it was a 35 mandatory open bar. Now, as I mentioned, my friend had arranged a 30 optional open bar. Apparently the staff had lied to my friend about the optional part (other friends who arrived later were also told it was mandatory) but most bizarrely I was being charged an extra 5 (my other friends were asked to pay 30). Was the door guy charging me more because he didn't like my shoes? Or more likely, was he trying to make some extra money on the side? I don't know and I didn't care because I declined to enter at that point. I texted my friend the situation and wished her happy birthday. Then I took my business elsewhere and I suggest you do the same.
