Just got a job offer from this valued organization as a team member for fighting against the most serious issue but yet which is being least understood by the the most Korean American families. I personally believe that this particular family issue is primarily due to a lack of communication from the cultural and language barriers between the Korean speaking 1st generation and the English speaking 2nd and/or 3rd generations. Therefore, since I am a 1.5 generation who has a better understanding of this family issue predicament so I am so excited to join and fully support the mission of KFAM in strengthening of all Korean American families in the greater Los Angeles area and beyond.

KFAM has provided wonderful service to Korean American families affected by physical and mental abuse. They treat individuals seeking treatment with the utmost respect and have comfortable counseling rooms that provide a safe space for sharing. Staff members are bilingual in both Korean and English, enabling service to those beyond Korean Americans. As a volunteer here, I was able to hear the stories of individuals harmed by domestic abuse who were able to rise from a painful past. Staff treated me like family and assured me that I was serving a meaningful cause. Domestic abuse in Korean American families is a caused that is too often overlooked, but in the heart of Los Angeles where thousands of Korean immigrants have resided, such abuse poses more of a threat than one may think and KFAM does well to confront the issue. KFAM also supports child wellness through the food care program and foster families through the Asian Foster Family Initiative (AFFI). I highly recommend their services to anyone with a troubled domestic experience.
