Overall not a bad place. They have a good variety of stuff and prices are not to bad and sales are also pretty decent. I also have found most employees to be helpful and knowledgeable. Sometimes of an employee doesn't know the information instead of just saying I don't know and leaving it there they find someone who knows the items better to help. I will say that I do find one thing weird about the store though. They have cowboy boots ina variety but when it comes to cowgirl boots you're lucky of they have even one style. Not that I can't wear the men's boots but it would be nice to see that added to the women's area.

I had 3 or so folks that helped me at the gun counter-Max, Hunter, Mitchell, Jesus, & a couple others that I am forgetting. It was a great experience. Max was extremely knowledgeable on the rifle I was interested in and helped me find a scope that was a great fit. I was able to get the scope mounted in store & bore sighted with no issues & quickly. The guys came out from behind the counter & helped me fit dust covers & didn't stop until there was a perfect fit. This was an awesome experience & went far above my expectations. There are some good old boys in MHK & thats exactly who you want at the gun counter. For the record - If you have not seen Mitchell's cursive hand writing when filling out paper work, it is a work of art. No one has handwriting like that these days. It's the little things that make Academy in Manhattan, Kansas one of my favorite store. We used the restroom while there & it was clean, had plenty of soap, hot water, & paper towels. I was headed home & forgot some ear protection, I ran back into the store & was greeted quickly again & was pointed in the right direction & even found the type I was looking for on sale! This was the way every Saturday should be! :)
Fantastic selection, huge store, and good prices. My only issue is nobody was available in the shoe section so I didn't purchase a few shoes. When I asked someone for help, nobody seemed to know where the shoe employee was hiding at even though another employee did try but he didn't know anything about shoes.
I've been twice recently. Once for a pick up and I went inside the second time. Pick up was flawless, my items were brought to my car on a cart. I went in with some time to browse on a later day and found the layout sensible and well marked. Aisles were wide so I didn't feel crowded or closed in. Everyone was very helpful when I asked for assistance, but they didn't assault me like used car salesmen and dog my every step. I will be back!
