In 2009, President Obama nominated Mary to a top job at the U.S. Treasury, where she became the first woman in history to serve as the Under Secretary for Domestic Finance. Mary led programs to help homeowners save their homes and small businesses get loans. She developed a retirement savings program for low income workers, and she worked with Detroit to help the city recover from bankruptcy. After the Obama administration, Mary returned her focus to Baltimore. She spent the last 5 years working to increase financial resources available to minority and women led businesses and entrepreneurs to create jobs. Mary has long been active with the Baltimore community. She attends St. Ignatius Loyola Church each Sunday.
