This is not a museum in the ordinary sense. It is a statement; an elegant and artful presentation about the people who occupy this place; now and in the ancient past. The Wanapum never signed a treaty or fought a war (with our government). They never gave up their land. We are a temporary aberration; they will still be here long after we are gone.

Although I began life on a reservation not far away (Yakama Rez), this is a tribe I knew little about. What a fascinating tribe of drummers and dreamers! I look forward to returning when I have more time to view and learn more. :)

Great people, great facility! Education forcused on Native Heritage should be a part of our local curriculum.

Fantastic heritage center with lots of informative displays. Friendly docent was happy to answer questions. Disabled accessible parking lot and entrance, clean and accessible restrooms. Beautiful facility with sweeping views of the river. Highly recommended!

Definitely worth a trip to see the stunning architecture and beautiful setting. I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibit on Melvin the elk who lived on Hanford Reach. The real stories and families of those who lived in the area was fascinating. Each exhibit is unique. Definitely kid friendly. And the museum is free, not even a donation basket is in sight.

Incredibly moving. We ended up staying for hours. I was floored by the scale of detail they put in. And the depth of emotions it made me feel.

Next time I'm going set a whole lot more time aside for this place. There are so many stories I don't know about this state where I live now and this one is awful... They've done the best to make something good out of something that was exceptionally unjust.
