Everyone raves about this place because it's really just that amazing. This year, of all years, like many, my family and I needed a getaway from it all, a place to unwind. I telework and especially needed the ability to get away from my office. This year, we wanted to include our dogs on our getaway, and we stumbled upon this gem. We chose to leave town for election week (after voting absentee) as a great time to get away from it all and unwind more than ever. This gave us some cooler weather, great access to local trails, and some much needed quiet and calm. At a time when we needed a vacation more than ever, this place did exactly what we needed and more. So thankful this place exists and we will definitely plan a return trip. Thank you for an amazing and exceptional experience!

We go everywhere with our two kids Molly and Mickey. We have found some good hotels to stay at but we have been in search of a retreat type place to go with them for a long time. We have found our spot. Barkwells is great. The cabins are wonderful and the grounds are terrific for us and our 4 legged kids. The staff is wonderful. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. We will be back for our 25th wedding anniversary and we are very thankful for Barkwells and the wonderful place to stay and relax.
Barkwells is a fantastic place to vacation with your pups. Our dogs had a blast and so did we, our cottage was comfortable and immaculate, the owners friendly and helpful - just a wonderful experience. We will be back!

This place is awesome! We very welcomed by Micheal and Ellen for our 8th anniversary! The little touches really impressed us! The cottage was super clear and luxurious. The dogs had so much fun swimming, running, swimming and running. Very close to trails, which we hiked two trails, and great places to eat the area too. We are definitely returning. Truly a dog's retreat but great for the parents too, as it was like staying at luxury hotel!
Perfect place to take your dogs so they and you can have fun and truly relax. Such a great place I can't say enough good things!

My family and I have been to Barkwells six or seven times now. It really is a second home for us. We love taking our four legged kids to relax with us. The entire property is meant for dogs to be able to roam free (so long as they are friendly and well behaved.) Further, each cabin on the property has its own fenced in yard complete with doggie door! For the people there is a hot tub at each cabin, a grill and lots of amenities. Barkwells also has a variety of products and services on offer. These include massage (for people,) pet sitting, locally made ice cream and dog treats. Mills River is very near Asheville and everything there. We always love going to Barkwells and hate to leave.
