I took the morning 2-hour tour of Bayou St. John, and I had an incredible time! Though the tour is pricey, I think it's worth the money. The Jackson Tupelo kayaks this company uses are very comfortable--they have folding chair style seats, which I find to be comfortable. My favorite bird is the yellow-crowned night heron, and I saw ELEVEN of them on this tour! That's the most I've ever seen in one day, much less two hours! And the tour guide Colin told me the places I can find more of them in New Orleans, which was very nice. We saw a large alligator on the tour as well, but we kept a safe distance. Colin told us a lot about the history of Bayou St. John and of the buildings along it. Before you go on this tour, I suggest doing some light reading on Bayou St. John so you can keep up with what the tour guide teaches you. Also, DEFINITELY bring binoculars so you can see the beautiful wildlife! Wear a long sleeved shirt, a hat that covers your ears and neck, lots of sunscreen, and towel to cover your legs--even in the morning it is hot and sunny and you don't want to get sun-burned like I did on my wrists. And bring a big water bottle and a snack. Paddling in the heat is hard work for your body. The only downside of my experience is it wasn't long enough! I wish I had taken the 4-hour tour all the way to Lake Pontchartrain. It's more expensive, but it would be worth the money I think. I'm actually thinking of buying a Jackson Tupelo kayak of my own after going on this tour.

Awesome urban adventure. We had a wonderful experience kayaking the bayou with Trishelle as our guide. Excellent communication ahead of time and great to work with. We learned about the history of the area, the architecture, the wildlife and ecology, and saw an alligator and much more. 100% recommend and would do it again. Even though it’s late November we did get a lot of sun, so don’t skip the sunscreen!
