MALAYSIA Eat the World NYC review: A few months after beloved Kopitiam moved to a larger space on East Broadway, Perfect Taste, another Malaysian cafe has decided to give the tiny space on Canal Street a go. It set up a little under a year ago, and seems to have a pretty healthy following, or at least as much as the room allows at any one time. One table with four chairs and two additional small counters allow seating for eight or so, but when that many people are there at once it can be a challenge just to get to the register. But once you order and settle in, Perfect Taste has a charm to it that is enjoyable. The kitchen is hidden behind a half wall but you can still get a sense of what the chef is up to, cooking dishes one by one as Grubhub and Postmates runners wait impatiently outside. Inside, the man in charge takes good care of waiting customers, passing out water before being asked for it, and making sure things are tidy. The menu, despite being large in size, is small in options and fitting for the space. Hainan chicken, Singaporean laksa, kaya toast, coffee and teas. The plate of Hainan boneless chicken and herb rice (11.98) is simple in appearance but certainly one of the city's best versions. The rice itself always competes to be the focus of the dish rather than the meat, and the small tray of sauces served alongside it make for a wide array of flavor combinations possible for each bite. The spicy red pepper sauce will almost always need a refill it is so good.

Glad to have another Singaporean / Malaysian food spot reopen where Kopitiam used to be. Perfect Taste added Hainan Chicken Rice and the rice is nicely done, chicken was very tender and you can have boneless option. I’ve had the chicken laksa twice and it was done right, the broth was not too spicy or oily ( I wouldn’t mind if they added stuff pepper or eggplants). But the White coffee was really good especially with a Kaya toast. Not lot of seating, small place so won’t fit more than 4 in the one table it has but we got to chat with the Owner and chef and they are really friendly.
Perfect bowl of noodle after a few drinks with friends. I should really skip the drinks and go for this instead. After dragging my friends to this spot because I wanted a bowl of noodle for a week now, I would say this fill every spot in my soul. First comes my chicken noodle and the broth is out of this world. Not only the presentation is beautiful, the soup is delicious. Just spicy enough for me and packed with flavor. My friend loves it because soup isnt as salty as normal Malaysian noodle. Then the owner corrected us that it's actually Singaporean noodle. So Yelp please add that category. Shrimp and veggie noddle are very good as well but I say my chicken noodle kills it. Inside is tiny. We are here on a friday night at prime hour. It's empty until someone comes in asking for wifi. Let's fill this place up and help small business like this. There are many many dishes on the menu we are going back to try as the price is affordable and reasonable.
Really tasty food, and truly an unexpected gem in the area. I've been looking for authentic Hainan chicken rice for ages in the city, and this serves it up, combined with delicious laksa (Singaporean curry dish). Everything was flavorful and cooked wonderfully, and the owner was so nice when welcoming us and taking our order. Highly recommend checking out, though note the seating is limited inside (one table and a couple counter seats on the wall.
Hainan chicken just like grandma makes. The taste really is perfect.
