Truly a unique experience. From as young as 4, kids experience French, music, coding, art, and science every week. Not only are the teachers great, they are vested in the Heritage mission. The campus is gorgeous and spread out, making it easy for students to social distance. The administration and teachers really care about the kids. It's a safe environment with small class sizes and a culture that is unbeatable. We are so happy to have our 6.5 year old as a student at The Heritage School.

My daughter is HSC (highly sensitive child). A newer lower school teacher harassed my daughter during zoom, over missing out on an art project. My daughter wasn't present during the time they introduced and worked on the project because of an accommodation put in place by the Head of the Lower School, (that the teacher was fully informed of). The teacher blamed my daughter for not participating in the project. It was as if she was blaming my daughter for having struggles and for using an accommodation. It's inappropriate and unethical. The teacher was forced to apologize to me and she was written up. They admit the wrong, but have a lack of concern that something like this could happen again. In my efforts to resolve the matter, 90% of the responses from the staff, including the Head of the School, was defensiveness, annoyance, justifying things I never complained about repetitively, manipulation, praising the teacher, and attacking me and my daughter, which was mostly false or a misunderstanding. I went through a lot of strain to receive a small amount of accountability. When the school was open, my daughter had complained to me that she would be bullied, then she would be the only one disciplined for standing up for herself. When I tried to talk to her teacher about it, she dogged the topic. This school offers a great academic education that comes along with an improper ethics education.

From our first tour the school seemed perfect for our kids. The teachers are happy, the staff is great, the campus is beautiful. But after our first week I was already concerned. Parents bring in cake pops and donuts on a weekly basis, candy is used to as a reward in the classroom, birthdays are celebrate with cookie cakes, and weekly baking activities usually include processed packaged cake mixes. In the upper classroom students can purchase soda from vending machines or with their lunch. I met with several people about the food policy and how food relates to a child's behavior and health. While I was heard, no changes we made. There is a cognitive dissonance going on here with food and how it greatly effects our children. We decided it was a better fit for us to move on to another school. I hope Heritage puts some policies in place around birthday parties (maybe only fruit and vegetables?), maybe no food dyes (they are linked to behavioral problems and made with petroleum), maybe no wheat while baking (a lot of pesticides). They have a lot of students they can positively impact and I hope they make some changes sooner then later.
