This is one of the most unique swimming lakes I've ever been to. It borders Lake Michigan with just the slimmest of sand bars separating the two. The North Bar Lake is 10 degrees warmer than Lake Michigan, and it's as calm as the moon. Lots of visitors had tubes or paddle boards, and it looked perfect. On the Lake Michigan side, enjoy the lovely smooth stones rolling up onto the shore. NOTE: the walk from the parking lot is long and takes a lot of commitment if you're lugging a lot of gear.

Very peaceful and serene place. It's not frequented that often because it's away from the dunes which makes it the perfect spot to enjoy the lake and the dunes in the distance. There is a short trail that leads right upto the beach. There is also an inland water body that might be good for canoeing or swimming. Fall colors looked beautiful here.
Two lakes in one trip. The sandbar is neat to see when the water levels are down.
Absolutely beautiful scenery. Easy access. Will definitely come back when its warm.
North Bar Lake Nature Preserve is sort of a two-for-one spot. You get a cute little lake, which is separated from Lake Michigan by a sand dune. It's been one of my favorite beaches, since I was a kid.
