I was really surprised to read some of the former reviews -- it was not at all my experience. Ramashala was exquisite -- there is a super lush, luxurious, quiet energy to a resort-like feeling in the midst of the jungle, across from the raw & energetic Kehena Beach. I was lulled to sleep by coqui frogs, greeted by the yogic management tending the lawn each morning around sunrise, & enjoyed some quietude in the center of the rural red road. I totally recommend the location for retreats or stays if you're looking to reconnect with a deeper sense of self, immersed in nature.

The property is very nice and secluded. However, the host was very disrespectful with us (he said he didn't care) when we asked for help to deal with a lot of small cockroaches that showed up on our room at sunset. We expected a nicer response.
The place could be nice but one of the rooms we were given was full of cockroaches. The person in charge was very disrespectful when asked for a solution and did not provide one.
I booked this property through Airbnb, the property is beautiful and Donnel (owner) was very accommodating, but there were a lot of bugs in one of the bedrooms (it's in the middle of the rainforest but the other rooms didn't have as many) and the host (Chuck) didn't want provide any solutions. Please note that even though it's listed as an entire house, only one bedroom has access to a kitchen and there were other guests staying in the same property. As well, when I provided this feedback they said someone had smoked, which is a lie as no one in the group smoked.
We chose Ramashala for our Yoga Retreat last March, as it was always so highly recommended on Big Island. We could not have had a better experience, and our participants absolutely loved it. Each room or suite was perfect for each participant, and we loved the large kitchen and dining area in the Mandala Suite. We used the Mandala Studio for our daily yoga practice, and the Prana Studio for our Hot Buddhi Yoga and Belly dancing class. We loved relaxing on the porch drinking coconuts, laying in the hammocks, on the grass, and walking to the beach... We were within an easy drive to our excursions: Green Lake, Tidepools, the Lava flow, and the steam vents. Since then, I have stayed in one of the individual rooms by myself and enjoyed the quite luxury. I highly recommend Ramashala for your retreat, as a single traveler, or for your family vacation.
