For classically trained vocalists looking to broaden their repertoire and try something new, there is no better person to study with than Sharon West. Last year, I called Sharon to see if she was currently taking on any more students. I was impressed by the website and REALLY impressed by the affordable prices for lessons (especially in bulk). We had a great phone conversation during which we set up my first free lesson and discussed all things music. But there was one catch. Sharon made it clear to me that she does not teach classical or opera. Ok, not a problem, I thought, since all my training thus far had been in this genre and I was ready to try something else for a change. So I did. One year later, I am so thankful for Sharon's disclaimer--by teaching me how to sing rock, pop and broadway, Sharon unleashed my inner belter and has crafted me into the more dynamic singer I am today. She taught me how to "mix" notes along the fault line between head and chest voice and internalize the words of each song to better impart their emotional impact. As a teacher, Sharon is encouraging and FUN! Singing is hard work but she always makes it enjoyable. Although I've had many voice teachers over the years, Sharon will always be my favorite because of her ability to unlock a secret part of me I had no idea existed. Thank you, Sharon.
