I've been in here several times now for various things. I definitely get the frustration that it seems like a lot of people have had with not really being given any answers as to what's happening to them. This has happened to me a couple of times here now, but I also understand that there's just sometimes nothing they can do. The people that treated me most recently were incredibly kind. The woman who checked me in was really calm and patient, and the doctor was really straightforward and friendly. He made it clear that they would be willing to do whatever I felt was necessary, but also mentioned that he didn't think more testing would help and would potentially be a waste of time & money. the guy who took my blood (which I hate) was really calming and was able to do it without me freaking out- he even showed me how the tubes worked and that was really cool, it felt like everyone there valued me as a person just as much as they cared about me as a patient. :)

NEGATIVES: I've only given them one star because of repeated HIPPA violations (13 documented so far), and their apathy and complacence in protecting me from further violations. Their inaction in protecting me from an employee that keeps stalking me (& my private info) KEEPS putting my safety and well-being in jeopardy and inflicts perpetual distress on me. Knowing that it can still happen again (more violations have happened this year, but have not received documentation yet on how many more violations beyond the first thirteen already documented). Yet nothing is ever done about the individual who keeps accessing my private information! POSITIVE SIDE: Their food services department is awesome. Forget any notion of hospital food being horrible. Their food services department operates on a level far superior to any other hospital I've been in. And the people in food services do everything in their power to make the food however you like. My favorite: the salmon! Skip the sauce they offer, and ask for lemon slices to drizzle salmon with lemon juice - absolutely fantastic. This doesn't make up for their HIPPA violations, which they recently helped the person to circumvent the few safeguards I had to press them to set up. They permit a stalker to keep working for Salem Health and have assisted them to access my records again! So, due to their deliberate indifference to my HIPPA rights, and how they have permitted and now have aided more violations of my private records they will only receive one star. Good food (and great Nurses & CNA'S) can't make up for that.

I understand screening before entering the hospital. What I don’t understand is why they can’t take your temperature on your wrist instead of the forehead. They both take your temperature. I asked to have this and was told policy is on the forehead. That’s fine for others but when you have had a gun held to your head that can be a trigger for someone like me. I was told if I didn’t do this I couldn’t enter. I think you need to change this “policy”. If it does the same thing why can’t this be done????

Generally id say portland hospitals are better at caring. From my personal experience salem doctors don't go further to help they just check for whatever on the surface and leave you for long periods of time. Im grateful for any medical assistance we can get some doctors are better at heath CARE i guess.

RN Harvest in the ICU is the best thing to have happened to my mother during her stay in the ICU. She is kind, compassionate, and treated my mother as her own during these difficult times. Salem Hospital found a gem when hiring this woman. She is absolutely incredible and has shown nothing but patience and empathy when working with my mom. My mom is still in the ICU for the next foreseeable future, but knowing Harvest is a part of her recovery sets me at ease. Well done, Salem Health & Harvest!
