Came here when they first opened and they were out of some of the empanadas. The food was OK but nothing to rave about. Nice to support a local business but not that cool when you cant get what you want. Might go back just to see if I missed something but the first impression left something to be desired. Tried like 3 types of empanadas and wasn't all that impressed. I did however like the patio area.

Its unfortunate because I did like this place. My firm purchased almost 200 worth of empanadas for a meeting on 10/27 as we often place large orders for meetings. But this time, one of the empanadas had a THREE INCH LONG WIRE MANGLED INSIDE THE EMPANADA. Of course, the owner Simon was apologetic but he only offered to refund 10%. His response was basically that it happens to every restaurant and that's just the way it is in the industry. I was shocked at how arrogant and defensive he was. Instead of being humble and accepting a very bad mistake and basically doing whatever it took to fix the situation, he said it happens to all restaurants. This could have turned into a visit to the ER had someone not been paying attention while eating. If I was a restaurant owner and a patron found a THREE INCH WIRE, not only would have refunded the whole thing but would have asked that patron to give me the opportunity to show that this was an isolated incident and called it a blessing considering that something tragic could have happened. I have been to many restaurants and I have NEVER found a THREE INCH WIRE INSIDE A MEAL PREPARED. A dirty spoon or a hair, maybe but a WIRE? I will never shop there again.

As an Australian traveling in San Diego, this was the best place for coffee I had, and also the best savoury pastries here (the pastry itself was not sweet). Walking distance from Santa Fe Depot, making it ideal on the way in or out of San Diego.
