I love the texture of Shotwell paper in my hand. Such attention to detail and brilliant product through recycling. Owner Pam is clever and committed to creatively helping to save the planet by her paper making process. Well done, Shotwell Paper Mill!

After searching several boutique stores, I stumbled into Shotwell yesterday looking for some nice paper to write a few special New Years greetings. Pam and her \from seed to press\ craft are impressive in a way which few in the image-heavy artisanal everything movement manage to be. There's an apparent life-long love for papercraft married with a keen creativity and a seemingly boundless drive to make. Her projects are simply top notch, featured in the NYT, though you'd never know it from her unassuming nature. There must be less than a handful of paper artisans working at this level in the country, if you are in SF and interested in the most beautiful high-end handmade paper & letterpress print, consider yourself lucky this one-off wonder is in town.

I enjoyed a paper-making demonstration at Shotwell Paper Mill. They have a number of items on display, and the equipment is interesting. When you come by, check out the mosaic at the front door. Yes, this mosaic is made from various types of paper, for example the cat tails in the mosaic consist of paper made from cat tails (the marsh plant, no animals were harmed in making the mosaic). This place is the home of Band Made Books, which include a DVD in the end cover and are use paper hand made from clothing of the actual rock band and / or their fans.
