I hired this company to install 2 used MX300 Nav/Coms, a glideslope indicator and a glideslope receiver in a 1976 Cessna 172. Their quote for the complete install job was 5000. Some of the equipment i provided needed repair before it could be installed, something that added about 1000 to the job. No problem. However, my final invoice was a staggering 8823.21. The 5000 estimate for labor to install the equipment jumped to 7628.21 with absolutely no explanation for the jump in labor of 2628.21 (21 unaccounted for labor hours). The total install time was an amazing 59 hours! I never gave approval for all of the extra, and still unexplained labor hours. I simply received the final invoice and it was promptly charged to my card. By law, automotive repair facilities can not deviate from an estimate without customer's prior approval. I am confident the rules are the same for avionics shops. Leading Edge never notified my of a need for 21 extra hours of labor at 125/hr. before performing it. So, if you get a quote for work, expect your final bill to be more then 50% higher than the estimate, and with no advance notice. Be very careful.
