It's difficult to be a government organization, especially when people expect something from the service at all times. When the financial crisis hit and my coworkers and I were between employment, I made it a point to be persistent around this office, looking for every opportunity to ask the staff for tips, to network, and to find my next job. The public training, mock interviews, resume writing and other skills training in this office (and at the UCSB Alumni center, some of which are open to the public) helped me get back on my feet. I knocked one star off because I did a lot of legwork for what information could be far more organized, and because it took a lot of persistence to get the front counter to give useful info, but once I was in, this office has a treasure trove of info!

I went in today with a notice of determination, and a denied disability claim. I expected the worse of bureaucracy and a cold shoulder. Instead, I met Thomas, an actual human being! Him and others that worked at the SB office worked hard to reverse a poor centralized decision. Instead of being further humiliated by my situation and the system, I was uplifted and treated fairly. Thank you!

t would be helpful if you provided new training to EDD staff /employees, for example DO use speech or written messages to provide brief explanations, politeness has been welcome DO NOT use hands, arms or front of the body toward a person to convey a message -- it is offensive and/or threatening DO NOT jump in front of a person and do not physically block a person’s body movement while person is passing thru etc. -- it is against the law, a misdemeanor DO NOT physically push your belly on a visitor in the middle of a door way -- it is unnecessary

This employment department isn't all that great due to the staff not being all that helpful and the building is a bit dated for the time. You will find a lot of computers for use to fill out your application but the staff is a bit limited.
