More airports should have designated observation areas like this. Shame on the city of Santa Monica for their efforts to close this gem.

Small airport predominately for general aviation. Fairly busy so a great place to take kids to watch small planes come and go. Plenty of space. Nice building but elevators seemed to be out. Lots of convenient parking and when kids get tired of airplanes lots of nearby play areas. Also nearby aviation museum with some older planes and a FedEx airplane protruding from front of building. Check hours on line as thedy seem to have changed. Parking available. Entry fee 10 for adults, 8 seniors.

This is a wonderful treasure in the greater Los Angeles area. If you like a spectacular view from the Hollywood Hills to the Pacific Ocean while enjoying airplanes coming and going don’t miss spending time here. As an aviation enthusiast I have been coming here for over 40 years. The airport provides bleacher seating with live air traffic radio communications from the airport tower to the aircraft. You get to see, hear, and experience in real time the exciting enjoyment of air travel into the historic Santa Monica Airport. Great place to bring kids to learn about aviation. There are clean public restrooms and nearby restaurants. It beautiful relaxing setting to enjoy.

ITS HISTORIC AND EVEN WITH THE JET NOISE EHICH I LOVE, ITS STILL VERY RELAXING JUST TO BE THERE. CITY COUNCIL IS SO CORRUPT FOR PLANNING ON CLOSING THIS AIRPORT. THE CLOSURE OF THIS AIRPORT WILL CREATE A BOOM IN HIGH RISE BUILDINGS, SINCE THERE WOULDN'T BE AN AIRFIELD RESTRICTION AGAINST IT. THATLL MEAN WAY MORE TRAFFIC AND A LOWER QUALITY OF LIFE. #ANONYMOUS
