I inquired about adopting the sweetest puppy and was sent the application. I filled out the application and sent it in within 24 hours. I was contacted by the shelter that they were going to contact my landlord and to notify him of their call. Which I did. My landlord spoke with the shelter and answered their questions, all was well. My landlord has no problems or concerns about us having a pet. Next thing I know I received an email from the shelter stating my application has been denied due to lack of approval from my landlord. I know this is a lie because I had just spoken to my landlord about the conversation he had with the shelter. I messaged the shelter again requesting additional information because either they’re lying to me or my landlord is lying to me. The next day I receive another email from the shelter which stated “after further consideration we feel you’re not a right fit for this program.” So that means they wrongfully blamed my denial on my landlord. They never called any of my references or even spoke to my boyfriend who lives with me. They did not do their due diligence on getting to know me or my home and they lied to me about the reason I was denied. I’ve tried calling to speak to someone and have only gotten their voicemail to which I’ve not received a response from. I’m heartbroken and confused and incredibly upset with the way this shelter has treated me as well as conducted themselves. I would not recommend anyone having any dealings with this shelter.

My amazing Stella girl was adopted thru Southern Paws!! If you are looking to rescue a dog, this is a great organization. I am blessed to have Stella, and I’m thankful to Ashley and everything she does so tirelessly and wholeheartedly!
I have not adopted from her yet! But I'm always watching! I know 4 or maybe even 5 amazing pups adopted from her & am eager but patiently waiting for the "one"

After searching for a new puppy to add to our family, we finally found Southern Paws who would allow us to adopt a puppy, despite having young children and both of us working full-time. We wanted our children to have the experience of raising a puppy. We have owned many dogs and are very familiar with what it takes to raise/train them, however, many places expected us to be home all day or wouldn't allow us to adopt a puppy with children under age six. We were instantly denied by several other places but after talking with Ashley and being completely upfront with her about our family, we were approved! We traveled five hours from Southern Maryland to pick up our pup. He was thoroughly vetted and even our veterinarian was impressed by the amount of paperwork that was provided with the adoption paperwork. We're so happy we added Kilo (formerly Beethoven) to our family!

Amazing rescue helping puppies and dogs from the South find homes! I looked at/spoke to so many rescues and shelters and Southern Paws is definitely among the best - they are responsive, professional and rescue the most adorable pups like little Ripley.
