You don't really need a mask to get on the bus. The lady who drives the #8 bus don't care if you don't have on a mask.

This is a small town. The drivers are rarely helpful. Especially the elderly lady with red hair. I have seen her put senior citizens off the bus. Will purposely leave you if she sees you coming. Then argue with the customers. Then they stop running for lunch. It's really a waste of money because it's not convenient after hours. They operate only 7-5 knowing that the world and times has change most people work after 5. They will not expand to help the community. Appointments should not be the only thing the bus operates for but this is spartanburg and South Carolina staying traditional never changing but always complaining.

Called this place, and the employee answers with \Hello?\ No indication I'd called the passenger center, I wasn't sure I hadn't misdialed until I specifically asked if I'd gotten the center. My response was a heavy sigh and an annoyed \yes..\ My apologies for interrupting you getting paid for not doing anything. The whole conversation was only for the purpose of trying to verify I'd gotten the correct place, and their hours of operation, and that this is where to buy a bus pass (I'm not from Spartanburg, so I didn't know any of this). The employee spent the entire call with a tone ranging between annoyance and condescension. I've never seen such a thing, the worst customer service I've ever encountered ever. And then I get there. And the same employee is sitting at the desk, reading something (I'm assuming her phone, I didn't look too closely). She didn't acknowledge me when I walked up to the desk and stood there. And stood there. Not until I said \excuse me\. Then I got the same air of annoyance that her precious time was being taken up. She waved me in the direction of the machine to get a bus pass, and looked down again. I click through the options, and go to pay with my credit card. Because it lists that as an option, and has a slot for a card. I hear the annoyed woman call from behind me, \This is a cash only operation.\ What? She repeats it. Oh, you mean it doesn't take cards?? Aaaaaand you couldn't have mentioned that when you waved me in that direction earlier? So I got stuck using the ATM next to it, incurring the first ATM fees I've seen in a decade. I was completely floored by this woman's attitude. The only way she could have been worse was if she'd been actually insulting me. Which her attitude kind of did. It's not hard to do customer service, and I hope they're not paying her very much - she doesn't deserve it.

The buses are cool and clean, and the staff is helpful for passengers who need information. It is nice when the buses are on time, but it can be frustrating when they are late or early, and they usually are late and people emd up waiting too long or it is very early and people end up missing the bus. The buses well serve the city, but they don't really serve most areas in the county like Boiling Springs, Glendale or Roebuck. I think more people would ride the bus if they went beyond city limits farther than they do now. Right now, they also only offer 4 types of passes. A 10 ride pass, a day pass, a 5-day pass (weekdays) and a 31 day pass (month). It would be easier for regular riders to be able to buy a yearly pass like there is in nearby cities with bus systems like Asheville and Greenville. Buses stop running at 6:00pm and in Asheville most routes run until 9:00 and 10:00 at night. It would also be good to have the buses running on Sundays so it would be easier to shop and go to church. There is also no transit information on Google maps. In Greenville and Asheville, it is easy to find out when the next bus is coming but here in Spartanbrg, a lot of times the buses are delayed so it would be nice Google maps can tell me when the next bus is coming instead of wondering the whereabouts of the bus at my stop. Many people use the bus system to shop and run errands, so you would need to transfer to different routes. Google Transit shows transfer information and helps riders. I really do hope that this bus system takes these problems into consideration in the next few years.
