I’ve been utilizing The Family Development Center’s services for about 5 years now and could not have more positive things to say about the organization. They’re always there for me when I need, and my counselor consistently offers insight and compassion in our sessions that continually lead me to more and more peaceful thinking. The fact that I’ve never felt the need to switch counselors in all this time displays the powerful work this organization does, and the benefit they bring to the community.

Two issues with this place: 1. HIPAA/Privacy Violations. Although the COVID transition was hard for everyone, there are some things that are so basic, even the transition to virtual counseling should impact. One being patient confidentiality. In multiple sessions, the counselor would be in shared areas of their home where others were clearly within earshot (no headphones in use). There was never any disclaimer about the possibility of others interrupting or being able to hear our confidential session. Unfortunately, it happened more than once and so we had to terminate our relationship with the counselor. which brings me to 2. Throughout the time we saw this counselor (which ended up being only a few months due to the above-stated reasons) we had to fight tooth and nail for a statement. We had to sign an autopay agreement even though we had insurance, but then never received a statement documenting what had been charged and how much insurance covered. Upon termination of services we requested a statement and in the same email were told it was a \final invoice.\ We promptly paid it and thought we were done with them. Now two full months later, our account was charged more than double what our final PAID invoice was for. When we tried to call there is no way to reach a live person and no option for billing. When you press the option for an operator, it says the mailbox is full and to try again later. There is no other information on how to contact this company and the only indication of billing is a place to pay a bill/put in your card information. I don't mean a \patient portal\ or anything, it is a link to PayPal or a form to put your credit card number in. Our counselor supposedly graduated and moved to a different clinic so we are unable to even reach out that way. If we had not visited the physical site for a few sessions pre-COVID I would be pretty well convinced they weren't legitimate.
