Wow. BBQ was amazing - no sauce needed. It was a nice compliment but unnecessary. I would rate top 5 all time for me. The sides are different from most places but still good. Cole slaw is vinegary and had sesame seeds, baked beans weren't very sweet. You get the idea. Lots of outdoor seating, great for the kiddos. It's BYOB but I believe they have a winery there that sells wine and beer. It was just too early for us to partake. FYI, they are no longer cash only.

My family loves the BBQ from the Salt Lick, so I placed an on-line order to be delivered to family in Phoenix and Denver for Christmas. One got there no problem, the other ended up sitting in a Fed-ex warehouse in Colorado - no longer fit for consumption. I got the Salt Lick and explained the situation. They shipped out a replacement for me the next day. A graceful recovery is sometimes more important than perfect execution. My family loved the meat as always, and I'm an even bigger fan.

I'm a transplant to Texas from the midwest. There are things I love about every place I live. But, when I discovered what eal\ Texas BBQ was, I was hooked that I had to acquire the pit master skills that this state and the Hill Country of Texas in particular is known for. One of the most well known and loved around Austin is the Salt Lick BBQ. I heard the stories but never went until last night. My wife and I were in central Texas for the weekend and we thought we'd avoid the rush by going over for a late dinner. When we got there, the parking lot looked like the Disney World parking lot; so many vehicles. We checked for the wait times and they told us an hour and forty-five minutes. I figured that we'd come this far, we might as well wait it out. It turns out they opened a table for us in about fifteen minutes. The service and the food were everything I'd heard it to be. I was very impressed. I forgot to take pictures of our food. But, we also ordered dessert; blackberry cobbler and pecan pie. I highly recommend to check this place out.

Good vibe. Suitable for family to have a little getaway. Loved the brisket, really tender. The pork ribs were rich in smoky flavor but a bit tough for me. Their bbq sauce was awesome. I wish we could sub the side beans with other options as we didn’t really like beans that much. They also have bread but you will have to ask to have it.

Wow! What can I say about Salt Lick that hasn’t already been said! We stopped by today after hiking at Perdenales Falls. We were welcomed to some good changes at the restaurant like no more cash only, credit and debit cards are now welcome. I had my usual burnt ends brisket (best in Texas) and Bison Ribs. I had never had bison ribs and boy, I sure wasn’t disappointed! I added coke slaw as a side and it was an awesome meal! I had to take some home because I was so full. Stop by Salt Lick and you won’t be disappointed!
