Atlas contacted me in August 2020 saying I owed nearly 600 to a towing company for towing my car in Feb. of 2020. The car in question was donated in March of 2017 and I have the receipt from the towing company to prove it. They also told me they had contacted the CA DMV where the car had been registered, and the car was still in my name. I was sure I had sent in the release of liability when I donated the vehicle. After spending nearly 3 hours on hold (thanks to Covid), the DMV confirmed that I had in fact sent in the release in 2017. So someone is running a scam here--either Atlas, or Speed's Towing of Portland, OR. Beware!! Negative stars, if possible.

I already paid off my debt and they sent me another letter denying they got my money and are asking for more! It’s so annoying and definitely feels like a scam! I paid them off and they said I didn’t

These vultures are actually suing people in small claims court during a pandemic, while people have no income. Sincerely hope karma nails you hard.

I, too, had a profoundly negative experience with Atlas after repeated attempts to pay the debt in 2014-2015. Earlier this year, someone claiming to be a process server and a representative of Mult. Co. court came to my house to serve me small claims papers and also claimed to have been by numerous other times when I wasn’t home (I was). He also repeatedly insisted I just pay up to avoid paying additional court fines (weird). After speaking to a couple different people on the phone at Atlas it became clear to me they had just ignored my online payment attempts and calls to draw out the 9% interest they’re entitled to until the debt expires and then file with small claims to put the pressure on. There’s a hyper-aggressive female employee I would just avoid at all costs if possible. I can’t remember her name, but you will know who it is because there’s a deep stink of unhappiness & anger that seeps through the phone within seconds of speaking to her. The clouds might blot out the sun and the birds might stop singing. She found her calling in shaking down people for unpaid medical bills (#m4a). I finally just paid in full because going to mediation is time I don’t have, but those interested in contesting should be sure to record all of their interactions, which I did as a precaution. The customer service rep I primarily dealt with admitted the process server that had been by my house was someone they had hired and didn’t work with the court. Dealing with Atlas was a huge learning experience for me (I’ve only had one other outstanding debt sold to collections and that experience was pretty quick & courteous) and I’d caution others to be extremely vigilant with them and not even attempt to pay using their online system.
