I completed the 2wk class with Brian. I thought the instruction was great and learned a lot from the course. I wanted to address some things these other reviews are saying. This is not a course for someone who is looking for hand-holding and sensitivity. Yes, Brian's personality can be abrasive. I don't think it's intentional, but even so, if you can't handle that, you can't handle being a bartender. Not all your customers are going to be rays of sunshine. As for class ending early, that is at your discretion. The instructor lectures you for the first half of the class and then you are expected to train on the bar for the remainder. You are not forced to stay there and train on the bar if you don't want to be there and you can leave at anytime. That just means you're not using the bar there to it's full potential. As for no supervision, you are always supervised but Brian is not hovering over you like a hawk watching your every move either and I don't think you would want that to happen anyway. There was nothing unreasonable about this class and in the end, you walk away a confident bartender who is ready for anything.

Finished my 2 week instruction and I’m very excited about the possibilities that are ahead. I can pretty much have my own business with the knowledge and hands-on experience I received at Barmasters. Brian is a very down to earth and realistic instructor. He is very thorough. Thanks Barmasters!

Great course, learned a lot and fast. You might gather from the reviews that the instructor is smarter than you think and prepares you for everything you'll deal with in a fast paced real bar from real world experience, not just a book. Definitely recommend.

Below is my review 3 years ago, today is 6/5/18 and I am updating/editing the review because I found out this “school” just closed down 6/1/18. Turns out I was right!! STAY AWAY!! WASTE OF MONEY, WASTE OF TIME, VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!! Sorry, but this school has probably the most UNPROFESSIONAL instructor I've ever come into contact with and the biggest waste of money I've ever spent. The new owner/instructor who took over in June 2014 is so bad that I can't even describe in words! He cancelled class and didn't make it up, started every class an hour late and ended them an hour or more early, I asked questions and got disrespectful and condescending responses, I wanted to be taught lessons and I got dirty jokes and his political opinions instead not to mention talking about the size of his penis on more than one occasion, I wanted an instructor to supervise while I practiced but he spent the majority of time in his office on his computer instead. I was supposed to get 20 hours of instruction per week and got 9 hours total. I asked for a refund because I realized immediately it was a HUGE waste of money and time. I'm going to The Academy of Bartending in Newport News instead, although it's a further drive from where I live I've heard they are very good and actually teach. If this kind of instruction continues, I highly doubt this school will be open for very long. STAY AWAY!!!

I recently graduated from here a couple of weeks ago. During the first few days I almost quit but decided to act like an adult and talked to the instructor. He seemed extremely harsh in the beginning. I asked him to please talk TO me and not AT me or DOWN to me. I could tell by his reaction he truly didn't realize he was doing that. From that point forward I really felt like I was learning. The instructor gave me some really good pointers and explained where I could practice more. I felt pretty confident by the end of this course.

I attended a while back, honestly I stopped attending because I was uncomfortable with the instructor Brian. I felt he was very unprofessional, he cursed in just about every sentence. Money wasted! Honestly I preferred having classes with the female instructor. I Highly recommend her if she is still there.

I just completed my 2 week classroom instruction. The instructor is passionate about the bar-tending profession, and if you're hard-headed like myself, he will help you understand by the end of the day.

I just graduated this program over the past week, passing the exams and getting my certification. I found the school provided exactly what I wanted....an honest approach to bartending and learning how to properly mix and pour drinks, and work in the bartending industry. Its not for everyone though, as you do have to put a lot of effort in on your part as well to memorize the recipes, and the mechanics of bartending. Plus you do have to pass the final tests to get certified. I worked with both instructors, and found them to be straight forward, knowledgable, and honest. If you need to be coddled constantly, or have a questionable work ethic this program would not be for you. (Though neither would bartending in the real world). I would highly recommend it to anyone who really wants to learn and is willing to put in the effort.
