My husband and I hired Lawlor Architects to completely renovate our Capitol Hill row house. We had a lovely home, but it was built in 1911, had an extremely small and unworkable kitchen, few bathrooms, and awkward spaces. Since we had 3 kids and wanted to stay in the home (we love the Hill and our neighborhood), something had to be done to make the space more livable. Steve Lawlor and his team were amazing and the renovation project exceeded our expectation. They took a lot of time to carefully evaluate how we lived, what our specific needs were, and how the new home design could meet those needs within our budget. The project was massive (completely reworking a 3 floor home) and took about 8 months to complete. The project was finished on time and within our budget (the only things that went over budget were last minute additions we asked Steve to make). That's the other thing - as one goes through this process, one may realize there are changes they need that weren't clear in the beginning. Steve's team was very flexible to the many changes (some last minute) that we had them make to our home design. Steve, his design team, and our contractor Leigh Mailloux were flexible, patient, understanding, and good communicators. Also, renovation, especially on older homes, can seem daunting. Steve and his team helped us with everything and made the process easy and low stress. That's an almost impossible task with a renovation like the one we did! I can't say nice enough things about Steve, our wonderful designer Paula, Leigh, and their crew.

We worked with Lawlor Architects on a rowhome renovation in Capitol Hill in 2019. Steve and Bonnie did an incredible job guiding the entire project. As a trained architect and practicing landscape architect my expectations were set high. Steve exceeded them. Lawlor Architects outlined the right expectations and delivered. A significant home renovation is never an easy undertaking. Lawlor's experience, dedication, and focus made the process enjoyable and collaborative.

With respect to professionalism, experience, and creativity, Steve and his team are in an exclusive tier of architecture firms in the DC Metro Area. As a local builder, we have the opportunity to work with numerous DC architecture firms. The quality, detail, and consistency of Lawlor Architects' drawings make our job as builders so much easier. It is not an easy task to make drawings sufficiently detailed for a builder while simultaneously keeping them sufficiently simple so that clients can understand them as well. Steve manages to do this with each job. His construction knowledge and high standards ensure that his clients are in uniquely capable hands throughout the build process. He is one of the most sought-after architects in DC for very good reason.

I highly recommend Lawlor Architects. My husband and I did a full gut renovation on our home on Capitol Hill. We brought in several different architects and design-build firms before deciding who to use. Steve was the only one who listened to what we hoped to get out of the house and how we wanted to live in it after a renovation while offering his experienced suggestions on how to improve on our ideas or suggest alternatives. Steve made sure that every detail of our house was perfect and he guided us through the home renovation process, something we had never done before, from start to finish. Thanks to Steve, our house doesn't look like a cookie cutter renovation. Rather, it includes large changes and small details that bring the whole house together so it's beautiful and comfortable for our family which now includes two young children.
