I had a great class with Will. He made me feel safe and comfortable in water, helped me to catch a lot of waves. Can’t wait to come back!

Wax, lessons, amazing boards, friendly staff, this is what local shops are all about. Support this shop and help small business thrive.

Just went in for a simple rental, didn’t have any questions, but felt like I was a huge inconvenience to everyone there for both pick up/drop off. Super uncomfortable. I’ll rent boards in Stinson next time. *Edit - It seems the owner disregards every one star review. Not everyone takes the time to give 5 star reviews. Most people are far too busy to give kudos to every business that has met or exceeded their expectations. Since I was prompted by Google to share a review, I obliged because of my negative experience. I was simply trying to save people from spending their hard earned time/money on shoddy businesses. Your response just confirms my review.

Terrible customer service. I drove all the way from Sacramento for some easy going waves, rented a cabin (gotta book like a month out) and went to rent a surf board. I've done similar trips all up and down the coast with no problems. I checked the surf report, weather, tide times etc. The guy at the counter, an old guy with pierced ears, interrupted me while I was telling him that I wanted a long board (I'm a bigger guy) with lots of foam, to tell me he wouldn't rent me a board until I went and looked at the ocean. When I asked him what I should be looking for, my thoughts were on safety and maybe he knew something I didn't, he told me "was the ocean, inviting".... bro, there's other people surfing down there, you probably rented some of them their boards so you know that, the waves are like 2-5ft high, kinda scarce but good for a long boards and that high tide was coming in about an hour but that didn't matter because I wanted to rent the board for a couple of days. He would have known that but we didn't get that far. Drive east on the 1 and get a board from Stinson Beach. These guys act like that because they're the only place in Bolinas.

I had a group lesson here with Ian and he was great. I was a bit nervous as I've been dealing with recovery from some serious traumatic injuries -- impact sports out for now -- plus had been pulled out from under waves twice by a lifeguard when I was little so old fear plus recovery stuff. I just wanted to get comfortable, understand the local conditions, get some practical info, see where my body was at, and get some level-setting and confidence (I've been on water all my life but lakes not ocean.) I'd taken one surifng lesson before in HI but ages ago and pre-injuries. Ian totally got it, was very encouraging, accepted my pace, and also worked really well at the much faster level with my cohort in the class who was 17. I enjoyed the whole thing, was very happy to not be pushed beyond my now-zone, and am very comfortable that I'll be coming back a lot as I get my strength up. Thanks, Ian!

Cool little surf shop and rental place, they have wetsuits with numbers on them and surfboards and related items. I actually didn't buy or rent anything but my friends did, and were smiling most of the time while wearing the wetsuits, which is a good sign. They also held onto my phone for a few days after I lost it on the beach, and even charged it up, which is great service for a non-customer. Thanks to Sophie for that. There's apparently a good taco truck nearby, although as with most trucks it moves sometimes.
