If you or your kids love getting dirty and finding all kinds of unique treasures this is the place to go. We took our boys last weekend and spent 4 hours digging for rocks! This place is just what it looks like huge mounds of dirt...all just waiting to be explored. We found so many beautiful rocks/crystals and had a great day of family time. Highly recommend.

I went back to Diamond Hill for the second time and it was raining. It was hard to stay standing. It was a workout for sure. But I did find some interesting pieces. Here are a few I haven't been through all of my rock.

I went to the Diamond Hill on February 6 the 2021. I was more then happy with what I found. I can't wait to return. I found a little bit of everything from amethyst to smoky to citrine and skeletal quartz. I didn't find any aquamarine but then again I didn't get to half of mine. I probably went through maybe a quarter of the mine. It was well worth the 2 hour drive to me. I enjoyed it immensely.

Great activity for kids while remaining socially distant. We went on a Monday and might have seen another 6 families over the course of the day. My boys (ages range from 2 to 8) had a blast. Tips: bring cash, bring lunch as you can't leave then come back, and a change of clothes. Be prepared to dig in the direct sun and shadows. The water in the center of the pits is there even when it hasn't been raining. There is a Porto Potty and picnic tables. Pictures are of the big pit, but there are several pits behind the parking area, too. Use GoogleMaps as there is no signage even at the dirt road leading to the mine. We were fine with garden shovels. Don't expect to get big rocks unless you're a serious digger (my crew spent a lot of time sliding down pit walls and running around, but we still managed to find about a half dozen small ones after a serious digger showed us what to look for.)

Active Mines seem to have better finds. Wasn't horrible but not amazing finds like active mines have.
