I had an absolute blast with SCUBA 8 getting Open Water Certified! Gabe and his crew are super friendly and put your safety first. We did some pool dives and then went out to Blue Hole for the weekend. Met some super cool people who were also taking the class as well! I highly recommend taking a class with Gabe—he’s very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor! Especially if you’re a UNM student, you can get some great deals:) Can’t wait to dive again!

Scuba 8 is actually one of the best extreme sporting companies I've ever seen! A few reasons why: - They helped me propose to my wonderful fiancee!! (Included planning, discounts on items needed, and eagerness to work with me for months before I actually planned to pop the question) - The main Instructor Gabe is incredibly relaxed and is able to easily and concisely to talk to students about what will be happening next. He's very comfortable in the water and is excellent in non-verbal communication (Useful when you're underwater and can't talk!) - Incredibly good prices on all gear, especially dive computers and rentals! I bought a lot of my gear almost immediately after the class because it was just too good to pass up! - We got to use dive computers while diving in Santa Rosa. - During our open water dive we were able to plan our own dive using the knowledge learned in the pool and from the coursework booklet. We met in a pool 2 weeks before the open water dive was scheduled. Here we practiced various skills in the shallow end of a pool and moved to a deeper end where we went underwater for the first time!! We practiced more skills at the deep end. 2 weeks later we traveled to Blue Hole, Santa Rosa and if you can tell from the pictures the water is BEAUTIFUL! It's an incredible experience, and for me it was literally a life changing experience. See pictures! There's only one company you should go to in New Mexico and that's definitely Scuba 8, here's why: while at Blue Hole I asked Gabe why other divers there (Not affiliated with Scuba 8) had weight belts rather than a weight integrated BCD, and it made total sense to me once he answered. He said, "we take care of you and get you the best equipment to train with". And that's such a blessing. All of the gear we trained with was high quality gear, and not just the cheapest like other companies did. 10/10 most fun I've ever had doing any activity ever.

Very friendly staff! If you are a UNM student you can take their dive classes at a discount, so I urge you to look into that. Gabe and Bryan are super friendly and great teachers; both have been diving for a very long time and are certified for teaching, so you always feel exteamly safe! They really know their stuff. If you take their classes, you get a 10% discount on your purchase of quality gear so it is really worth it!

I’ve done all of my training from my initial open water certification through dive master at Scuba 8. They are by far the best shop I have dealt with for providing top of the line training. I’ve been diving with other operations and helped other shops with their certification classes and don’t believe they provide the same level of training or the same attention to ensuring the students are prepared to dive on their own that Gabe and the others at Scuba 8 do. They provide a much higher level of personal service and take the time necessary to ensure every student is ready to be on their own diving safely.

The instructors are providing best practices in scuba certification, while being patient and flexible to suit every student. I was very disappointed to learn SCUBA 8 decided to go against CDC recommendations and take a group of divers to Bonaire 3/15/2020. I feel this was a slap in the face for all healthcare providers including myself. These divers put their trust into Gabe to guide them, unfortunately they will now reap the consequences. Trips can be postponed, lives CANNOT! Such gross disregard and arrogance.
