Word of advice, get authorization for traveling by POV or rental! Do NOT take a cab! If your DTS official or UA denies your option to drive explain the situation and make every effort to get your travel authorization to drive because it's practically a necessity if you don't even know who may or may not attend your same class with a vehicle. Ft Sam is a rather big place and you'll need to make a few stops for alterations, haircuts, equipment, T/I, etc. You'll have to complete these courses in order to advance so complete them at the lowest rank possible. Don't wait till you're the highest ranking student or you'll be expected to walk on water. Now that I made that clear...The NCO academy is a waste of time and money. Taught me nothing but how to present boring PP presentations on a more fixed track from a short "first come first serve" topic selection list and under scrutiny of a biased SGL. It's a real distraction from your real life duties which I grew proficient in before making E5 in within my first 2 years of service. The course does nothing but make people annoyed and discontent who could be focusing on the needs of their units. Gives the wrong people a push while holding back others who have long proven themselves over years to be major leadership assets in their assigned units. No one should be required to attend and I don't recommend.
