We received a "donation" of trade dollars from America's Barter Exchange at its annual auction. We have tried to spend the trade dollars for the past nine months. We have worked with multiple unresponsive trade directors and potential businesses to trade with, to no avail. We reach out, and then we have to reach out again a few weeks later because we don't hear back. I tried to work personally with the owner with the same results--I reached out with needs and did not hear back from her for a month, at which point I reached out again to indicate we want to close the account and get a refund of the deposit we put in initially. She refuses to issue a refund. We are a nonprofit organization. We went into this relationship in good faith, but it is not working, and it is now costing us in time and money. Unfortunately, calling the office has not resolved this situation, and we will continue to attempt to have all communication in writing.

The trade brokers have many personal and health issues which leads to very inconsistent behavior/follow up/ callback and much turnover. Staff does not "know" what members trade or more importantly the how or process to make that trade work! This leads to many attempts and much unfinished or incomplete trades and hence frustration. A good example is picture framing whereby the member only trades his leftovers from his work with professional athletic teams but he will gladly show you his wares at cost. He kept my art work for a month and nothing got framed. Not even a cash price was ever calculated. Too many people do " trade" as a sideline- an attorney offers furniture, a school bus driver offers a cleaning service --it is difficult to get an invoice with the company letterhead so you feel the trade is legitimate. I am still waiting on a 6,000 invoice for a car repair ( never received at shop and have been requesting for three months) and yet they felt perfectly comfortable charging my account (that day upon the member's phone call as I never signed or saw the invoice!!) and then my credit card for fees! Speaking of fees, the accounting staff works this as a 2nd job and thus you will see the last day of the bill cycle trade posted that is inaccurate and the trade cash fees are slammed to your credit card and you can do nothing about it. I had over 500 posted to my charge card and it took me months to recover that 500 in their trade fees when I could have put it to much better use many months ago on a different bill....When asking for assistance with a trade the most common comments are - I will reach out to them and see what we can do or I will look into it and you can expect nothing in return. I would also agree they have favorites and do not help evenly - I found myself a member that did windshields and as he was installing my windshield he told me he had done one just the week before for the exact trade broker I had asked for help and she said she had no one!

The inside of the building is so dated. They try and over charge for items that are used. They claim to have another location no one has ever seen. They aren't registered with BBB nor with yelp. They only hire people that are in their circle. They are very racist people. Idk how they have stayed in business as long as they have. I wouldn't buy anything from them. A friend of mine signed up with them and had nothing but issues. Just a all around awful company.
