I would have loved to give Dr. Portera a 5 star but his staff are not the best to say the least. I called to see if I could get some help after surgery. Front desk Deb told me that I needed to go to my general practitioner for a rehab referral. I was also told by another staff member to go to my GP for pain. Alex his Assistant tried to take my blood pressure in the arm where the lymph nodes were taken which was very painful. My incision broke open after stitches were taken out but thank G-d it healed on its own because I was terrified to go back to the office. Dr. Portera is very kind and an excellent surgeon it’s just his staff. If you need help after surgery your on your own.

Dr. Portera is awesome. He did a bowel resection on me 4 1/2 years ago. Between the time I got the referral to him and the time I had the surgery it was around 3 weeks. He has a great personality that put me at ease. I had to chuckle when he walked into the OR with cowboy boots on. He was good about making sure I understood everything about the surgery and how to care for my wound when I was released from the hospital. He gave me enough medicine to relieve my pain but not so much that I couldn't function. In my opinion, he is the best around!

Dr. Portero did colon surgery on my husband Ronald Rowland in Chattanoga TN. We miss Dr Portero, but know his patients in Alaska love him! We hope to say hello when we make it to Anchorage... ...and we pray the earthquakes in Alaska are not harming him or his family.. Dr Portero, YOU'RE THE BEST!!

Dr. Porteria could use some sensitivity in dealing with patients who have life threatening cancer. He was completely insensitive to my case, not prepared and basically revealed he was not going to touch my case with a 10 foot pole. He even appeared angry that I was referred to him. He offered no hope, no concern and no outreach to a patient with cancer. We are still in the era of going to Seattle to get quality cancer care. I left his office with the feeling that I will just be left to die if I stay here.
